boat trip 2003
Boat Trip was financed by the Motion Picture Corporation of America, International West Pictures, ApolloMedia and Gemini Films for $20 million and Artisan picked up US distribution rights on this turkey.  Artisan originally planned on a January release, but pushed it back to March 21, which ended up being the day after the Iraq War invasion began and grim 24-hour news cycles were the national attention.  War certainly impacted the box office that weekend and bottom of the barrel reviews certainly did not help Boat Trip.

It was booked into 1,714 theaters against Dreamcatcher, View From The Top and Piglet’s Big Movie and was dead on arrival with $3,815,075.  It placed #10 for the weekend led by Bringing Down The House in its third frame.  Boat Trip sank 55.7% the following weekend to $1,691,121 and promptly lost most of its theater count.  The pic bombed out of theaters with $8,600,126 and would be the second to last wide release by Artisan before they were bought out by Lionsgate.  The last film released was the cheap legendary stinker House Of The Dead.

Entertainment distributed Boat Trip in the UK to a poor $1.5 million and Spain posted the highest offshore number with $2.1 million.  The overseas cume was just $6,420,167 and Boat Trip went straight to video in Australia and France.
